Decor Modern publishes home improvement guides, cost breakdowns, and product comparisons for homeowners across the United States. Every piece of content on this site goes through a defined process designed to ensure accuracy, usefulness, and honesty.
Our writers have real-world experience
We don’t assign home improvement articles to general-purpose writers. Every contributor on our team has a background in residential construction, interior design, facilities management, or a related hands-on field. Their experience is described on their individual author pages, and every article carries a visible byline so you know who wrote it and why they’re qualified.
How an article gets made
Each article begins with a specific question a homeowner would actually ask — not a keyword we want to rank for. The writer researches the topic using manufacturer documentation, building code references, and industry cost data. Where applicable, we reference sources like the Remodeling Magazine Cost vs. Value Report, the U.S. Department of Energy guidelines, and EPA standards.
Once drafted, the article is reviewed for factual accuracy, completeness, and clarity. We check that cost figures include the year they apply to, that tool and material recommendations are specific enough to act on, and that the article honestly addresses when a project is beyond DIY.
What we don’t do
We do not accept payment from brands or manufacturers in exchange for coverage, reviews, or mentions. Product comparisons and “best of” lists are based on publicly available specs, user reviews, and our contributors’ professional judgment — not on sponsorship deals.
We do not copy or closely paraphrase content from other websites. Our articles are original work. Where we reference data or findings from external sources, we name the source.
We do not publish content on topics outside our team’s expertise. If we don’t have a contributor qualified to write with authority about a subject, we don’t cover it.
Keeping content current
Home improvement costs, building codes, and product availability change. We review and update published articles regularly, and each article displays the date it was last reviewed. When we update cost data or product recommendations, we note the year so readers can judge the timeliness of the information.
Corrections
If you spot an error in any of our articles — a wrong figure, an outdated recommendation, a missing safety warning — please let us know through the contact form. We take corrections seriously and update articles promptly when a factual issue is confirmed.
A note on affiliate links
Some articles may contain affiliate links to products on Amazon and other retailers. If you purchase through these links, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships never influence which products we recommend or how we evaluate them. We recommend products we believe are worth buying, and we say so even when a product has notable drawbacks — whether or not we earn a commission on it.
